The partial renovation of a 1,800 square foot Upper East Side apartment entailed converting this two bedroom, two and a half bathroom into a three bedroom, three bathroom apartment. The existing bedrooms and bathrooms were located at the south end of the home; the living and dining areas located at the north. Proper placement of the third bedroom was critical in maintaining the transition between common areas and private spaces. A new open kitchen was relocated to the formal dining room, which was opened to become part of the larger living space. The existing kitchen was replaced by the third bedroom addition; the sleep areas remain coupled together. Custom designed radiator enclosures, which house storage, run the length of the penthouse to create a clean transition between public and private spaces.
