Two unfinished floors of raw space, totaling 58,000 square feet, was leased by Workman Publishing Company, to accommodate 18 years of growth and a space requirement that tripled.
The full build out entailed merging the floors internally with an intra-office stair and designing an efficient layout, suitable for a significant number of employees. Once home to printing and manufacturing companies in the early 1900’s the existing space was completely upgraded to meet the demands of a modern office. Electrical power was conditioned and completely reinstalled with new mechanical equipment. Customized workstations and energetic paint colors demark the boundaries of each department, each placed adjacent to related fields. Workgroup productivity was enhanced by structuring the partitions’ height relative to the level of intradepartmental communication. The company’s tightly woven eclectic culture and creative products were incorporated into the design, resulting in improved synergies within – and between departments.
